Breath prayers were an anchoring ritual in the early days after miscarrying our twins. In the middle of a Colorado winter, I walked outside daily and uttered a simple prayer. Breath in. Breath out. Anchor in affirmation.
Grief is disorienting. It exposes the things you use to ground yourself, the knowings that make you feel safe. It leaves you feeling untethered.
This practice of taking breath prayers outside has become my go to ritual when I am holding grief. Nature grounds me. It reminds me of what is sure: winter will turn into spring. Spring will grow flowers that lead into summer. And summer will yield the harvest of fall.
For all of the questions your mind holds, for the achey parts, for stray pieces looking to find a home – may these breath prayers be a salve to your wounded places.
Inhale: I am seen.
Exhale: I am loved.
Inhale: I am here.
Exhale: I am my home.
Inhale: I am human.
Exhale: I allow myself to make mistakes.
Inhale: I am expanding.
Exhale: I am creating space.
Inhale: I am known.
Exhale: I am nourished.
Inhale: I accept the gift of the present moment
Exhale: I am filled with gratitude.
Inhale: I am clothed in abundance.
Exhale: I have all that I need.
May these breath prayers bring light and connection with yourself and Divine.
With you in healing,
Bethany
